Queen & King Size Crochet Blanket Calculator
Crocheting a full bed-size blanket is a big commitment, so plan it properly. This queen size crochet blanket calculator (it also covers twin, full, and king) turns your chosen bed size and gauge into a starting chain, stitch and row counts, and a realistic yarn estimate — so you buy enough yarn the first time.

Your result will appear here after you press Calculate.
Bed-size blankets use a lot of yarn. Estimates assume single crochet with a 10% buffer; buy from the same dye lot and keep your receipt in case you need more.
Formula used
Stitch and row counts come from your gauge; yarn scales with the blanket's area:
- Stitches per inch = gauge stitches ÷ 4
- Starting chain = round(width × stitches per inch) + 1 turning chain
- Total rows = round(length × rows per inch)
- Estimated yarn = width × length × yards-per-square-inch (by yarn weight) × 1.10
Worked examples
Queen 90 × 100 in blanket, worsted weight
At 12 sc and 12 rows per 4 inches (3 per inch), a 90 × 100 inch queen blanket starts with about 271 stitches, runs 300 rows, and needs roughly 7,920 yards — about 22 skeins of 364-yard worsted.
King 108 × 100 in blanket, bulky weight
In bulky yarn at 9 sc and 11 rows per 4 inches, a king blanket starts with about 244 stitches and 275 rows, using roughly 6,535 yards. Bulky cuts the yard count versus worsted while finishing faster.
How to use this calculator

Frequently asked questions
How big is a queen size crochet blanket?
A queen blanket is typically about 90 × 100 inches (229 × 254 cm), which covers a 60 × 80 inch mattress with a comfortable drop on the sides and foot. If you only want a top coverlet rather than full coverage, you can make it smaller.
How much yarn do I need for a queen size blanket?
A worsted-weight single-crochet queen blanket can use roughly 7,000–8,500 yards — often 20–24 standard skeins. Bulky yarn reduces the yard count but adds weight. Always enter your real gauge and yarn weight for a tailored figure, and buy a spare skein from the same dye lot.
What's the difference between queen and king blanket size?
A king mattress is wider than a queen (about 76 inches versus 60 inches), so a king blanket is usually around 108 inches wide versus 90 inches for a queen. Lengths are similar at about 100 inches. Use the preset menu to switch between them.
Should I crochet a big blanket in one piece or in panels?
Both work. One piece avoids seaming but gets heavy to handle as it grows. Panels or large squares are easier to carry and let you check gauge as you go, then join at the end. The stitch and yarn totals are the same either way.
How long does a queen size crochet blanket take?
It depends on yarn weight, stitch, and your speed, but a worsted queen blanket often takes many weeks of regular crocheting. Choosing a bulkier yarn and a taller stitch (like double crochet) covers area faster and shortens the project.
Why is my yarn running out faster than the estimate?
Textured stitches, tight tension, color changes, and borders all consume extra yarn beyond a plain single-crochet estimate. The calculator adds a 10% buffer, but for big blankets it's wise to buy one or two extra skeins up front.
